Testing requirements for promotion to 3rd Geup High Blue Belt:

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the pattern Jung-Geun, as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all patterns, and pattern exercises learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of Beginning One-Step-Sparring and Beginning Semi-Free Step-Sparring, as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of No-Contact Free Sparring and all step-sparring formats learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following kicks with both the left and right leg;

Back Snap Kick

Vertical Kick (Inward - with the reverse footsword)

Vertical Kick (Outward - with the footsword)

Reverse Turning Kick (toward the front and the side front)

Ground Hook Kick

Ground Downward Kick

Ground Twisting Kick

Flying Crescent Kick

Mid-Air 180Back Piercing Kick

Three Consecutive Kicks (different kicks - different targets or directions)

as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all kicks learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following techniques;

Close Ready Stance type B (mo-a jun-bi seo-gi B)

Low Stance (nat-chweo seo-gi)

Rear-Foot Stance (dwit-bal seo-gi)

Close Stance middle Angle Punch with the Forefist

Walking Stance Upper Elbow Strike (reverse)

Walking Stance high Vertical Punch with a Twin Forefist

Walking Stance Upset Punch with a Twin Forefist

Walking Stance Rising Block with the X-Fist

Walking Stance high Front Punch with the Forefist (reverse)

L-Stance middle Block with the Reverse Knifehand (outward)

L-Stance high Side Strike with the Backfist (reverse - outward)

L-Stance middle Side Punch with the Forefist (reverse)

Low Stance Pressing Block with the Palm (reverse)

Fixed Stance U-Shape Block with the Reverse Knifehands

Rear-Foot Stance Upward Block with the Palm (reverse) 

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following Ho-Sin-Sul (Self Defense) techniques on both your left and right side;

At least two defenses against an attack from the rear with a Full-Nelson

At least two defenses against an attack from the rear with a Bear-Hug (over the arms)

At least two defenses against an attack from the front with a Bear-Hug (over the arms)

At least two throws against a Back Piercing Kick attack

Shoulder roll to the right and left sides over a knee-high barrier - coming up in both a kneeling position and with a break fall

as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all Ho-Shin-Sul techniques learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of both power and technique breaks on 1" pine boards.  These will include several specific hand and foot technique breaking requirements for 3rd Geup High Blue Belt, as well as some from previous rank level breaking requirements.  Breaks will be selected by the testing candidate and/or specified by the test board.

 

Passing the 3rd Geup Written Test within two weeks of testing.  This test will cover the required knowledge learned at all previous belt ranks as well as the following 3rd Geup knowledge requirements;

The pattern history, pattern diagram, and number of movements for the pattern Jung-Geun

The ten parts of the student's responsibility to the Student-Instructor

   Relationship in Taekwon-Do

The characteristics of a Rear-Foot Stance (Dwit-bal Seo-gi)

The characteristics of a Low Stance (Nat-chweo Seo-gi)

The characteristics of a Close Ready Stance type B (Mo-a Jun-bi Seo-gi  B)

 

Training expectations for the Chang Hon Kwan Taekwon-Do class are as follows:

Active workouts in approximately 7-8 classes/month for at least 3 months at a 4th Geup Blue Belt level;

Active workouts in approximately 7 classes in the three weeks just prior to the next testing; and

Students work out on their own outside of class on an average of four-and-a-half hours/week during this time.

 

Tournament competition in both Patterns and Sparring in at least one tournament during this testing cycle is required.

 

Participate in two hours of community service type activities during this testing cycle.

Rank Promotion Testing

The actual requirements AT testing for 3rd Geup High Blue Belt will consist of a physical test and an oral examination.  The physical test will consist of a demonstration of the pattern Jung-Geun, as well as random elements of Taekwon-Do selected by the test board.  These random elements will be selected to include requirements learned at this level (listed above), as well as some elements from previous belt rank testings.  The oral examination will consist of random questions covering required knowledge learned at this and all previous belt ranks.
