Testing requirements for promotion to 2nd Dan Black Belt:

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the patterns Gwang-Gae, Po-Eun, and Gye-Baek, as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all patterns, and pattern exercises, learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of Model Sparring, Foot Technique Sparring, Pre-Arranged Step-Sparring against two opponents, and no-contact Free Sparring, as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all step-sparring formats learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following kicks with both the left and right leg;

Pick Shaped Kick

Waving Kick

Flying Twin Foot Twisting Kick - 2 targets

Flying Twin Foot Turning Kick - 2 targets

Flying Twin Foot Side Turning Kick - 2 targets

Flying Double Kick

Flying 360Crescent Kick

Flying Consecutive Kicks (2)

Flying Combination Kicks (2)

Mid-Air 360Back Piercing Kick

as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all kicks learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following techniques;

One-Leg Stance (Oe-bal Seo-gi)

Parallel Stance with a Heaven Hand (na-ran-hi seo ha-neul-son)

Crouched Stance (O-geu-ryeo Seo-gi)

Close Stance Side Downward Strike with the Side Fist

Close Stance Horizontal Thrust with a Twin Elbow

Sitting Stance Rear Thrust with the Elbow

Sitting Stance Horizontal Punch with the Forefists

Sitting Stance low Reverse Knifehand Guarding Block

Sitting Stance Scooping Block with the Palm

Sitting Stance Front Strike with the Backfist

Sitting Stance Nine-Shape Block

Walking Stance Upset Punch with the Forefist (reverse)

Walking Stance Upset Punch with a Twin Forefist

Walking Stance Double Arc-Hand Block

L-Stance U-Shape Grasping Block

L-Stance Upset Punch with the Middle Knuckle Fist

X-Stance high Side Strike with the Backfist (bringing the finger belly to the side fist)

One-Leg Stance Upward Punch with the Forefist

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of both power and technique breaks on 1" pine boards and concrete tiles.  These will include several specific hand and foot technique breaking requirements for 2nd Dan Black Belt, as well as some from previous rank level breaking requirements.  Breaks will be selected by the testing candidate and/or specified by the test board.

 

A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of Ho-Sin-Sul (Self Defense) techniques for;

At least 2 defenses against an armed attacker with a stick

At least 2 defenses against an armed attacker with a knife

At least 2 defenses against an armed attacker with a gun

as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all Ho-Sin-Sul techniques learned at previous belt ranks has been  maintained.

 

The demonstration of a Ho-Sin-Sul routine consisting of defenses against multiple attacks against two opponents.   It will be restricted to two minutes in length.

 

Passing the 2nd Dan Written Test.  This test will cover the required knowledge learned at all previous belt ranks as well as the following 2nd Dan knowledge requirements;

The pattern history, pattern diagram, and number of movements for the pattern Gwang-Gae

The pattern history, pattern diagram, and number of movements for the pattern Po-Eun

The pattern history, pattern diagram, and number of movements for the pattern Gye-Baek

The two types of umpires for Taekwon-Do competitions;

The six types of sparring;

The nine parts, or guidelines, of the Philosophy of Taekwon-Do;

The characteristics of a One-Leg Stance (Oe-bal Seo-gi);

The characteristics of a Parallel Stance with a Heaven Hand (na-ran-hi seo ha-neul-son);

The characteristics of a Crouched Stance (O-geu-ryeo Seo-gi); 

 

Training expectations for the Chang Hon Kwan Taekwon-Do class are as follows:

Active workouts in approximately 7-8 classes/month for at least 18 months at a 1st Dan Black Belt level;

Active workouts in approximately 80 classes in the twelve months just prior to the next testing; and

Students are expected to workout on their own outside of class.

 

Tournament competition in at least one tournament as a Black Belt during this testing cycle is required.

 

Participate in 30 hours of community service type activities during this testing cycle.

 

A 500 word thesis comparing each of the similar components in both the Student's AND the Instructor's portion of the Student Instructor Relationships.

 

Rank Promotion Testing

The actual requirements AT testing for 2nd Dan Black Belt will consist of a physical test and an oral examination.  The physical test will consist of a demonstration of the patterns Gwang-Gae, Po-Eun, and Gye-Baek, as well as random elements of Taekwon-Do selected by the test board.  These random elements will be selected to include requirements learned at this level (listed above), as well as some elements from previous belt rank testings.  The oral examination will consist of random questions covering required knowledge learned at this and all previous belt ranks.
